That is an excellent question. I feel like there's so much to say about this that I should do a podcast on it! Let me start by saying the following:
-wide angles show more view, but make the background smaller
-telephoto angles show less view, but the view is actually things closer to their proper size
Showing just the view doesn't 'tell the story' (as I like to say) so I always try and combine the area which the view can be seen and the view itself. So, if people can see the beautiful view from the deck chair, I include the deck chair. If people can see it from the bedroom window, I show it through the window pane.
Here's another tip - don't attempt to show the entire view in one photo. Capture the view in three or four different pictures, each zoomed in a bit to make it a bit larger.
Oh, and I don't make panoramas if it's going into the MLS - most MLS systems are coded to fit specific aspect ratios and will 'smush' your panorama. If it's for a client that isn't listing in the MLS, I won't hesitate to make a panorama.

I started with a 50mm lens on a full frame camera, but this often fails to capture the full width of the view.
I’ve created a panoramic image stitching together several images made with a normal lens, but when this final image is displayed it appears wide but small. (Bonus question: What cropped aspect ratio do you use for your panoramic images?)
A 24mm lens seems to work nicely, and I like the panoramic image created when using this lens as well. However, do you think using a wide-angle lens to capture the view undermines the credibility of the image?
